Artist of the Bighorns, author, Wyoming Pioneer and naturalist, Hans Kleiber was a man of many talents with a strong affinity for the area. His admiration of the Bighorns and the town of Dayton is evident in his world-famous poetry and sketches.<\/p>\n

Born in Germany in 1887, Hans immigrated to the states, pursuing a career as a U.S. Forest Ranger. Spending great lengths of time in the Bighorn Mountains, the natural beauty of the area served as inspiration for his art.<\/p>\n

In his decorated career, Hans received the Silver Metal from the Printmakers Society for his print \u201cLeaving the High Country\u201d and even had a special showing at the National Museum in Washington, D.C. in 1944. Hans was very active in community affairs around Dayton and worked in his rustic studio until his death in 1967.<\/p>\n

Han Kleiber\u2019s historic log cabin studio still stands on Main Street in Dayton and has been preserved to appear much like it did when he used it. His furniture, books, art supplies, etching tools and famous printing press are on display as well as photos of the artists and artwork.<\/p>\n

The Hans Kleiber Studio Museum is open and free to the public during the summer months. Hours are\u00a0Monday – Wednesday, 9am – 2pm, or by appointment.<\/p>\n
