JANUARY 1  POLAR BEAR CLUB 20th annual Polar Bear Jump at 1:00 pm at Lake DeSmet's monument boat ramp.  A great way to start the New Year with a refreshing dip through the ice, really gets the blood pumping.  No membership fee, just a steely resolve and an adventurous spirit.

MAY 8-9: MARS BIG HORN SOCCER CUP (formerly Snickers Tournament) - 21 fields of soccer competition in action with more than 110 youth soccer teams (ages 8-14) from WY, MT, and SD held at the Big Horn Equestrian Center (South of Sheridan). For more details on the fun-filled weekend, with youth play area and activities, 15 concessionaires:
MAY 21-23:  17th ANNUAL ROCKY MOUNTAIN LEATHER TRADE SHOW - All Your Leather Shop Needs Under One Roof - Holiday Inn, Sheridan, WY, voted #1 town in the West! Over 100 leather related suppliers, manufacturers and dealers. Great for hobbyists and tradespersons alike. Public invited - free admission. Attendance: 500 saddle makers, leather crafters from the US and abroad converge for the weekend!  Workshops - fees apply. Home to 9th World Leather Debut gallery and contest - Workshop Admission $10 in advance. MAY 23: EATONS' HORSE DRIVE - Great entertainment seeing over 100  horses cowboy-driven through Sheridan, passing by the State Information Center about 9 AM and down 5th Street past the Historic Sheridan Inn, where Buffalo Bill auditioned Wild West Show acts and then out to Eatons’ Dude Ranch, the oldest in the nation.
MAY 20-22:  WYOMING 3A AND 4A STATE SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIPS includes 32 boys & girls high school soccer teams from around WY, held at Big Horn Equestrian Center.

JUNE 4 - 6:  HOOP JAM - 3-on-3 Street Basketball Tournament provides wholesome family entertainment with 18 courts/800 participants in on Whitney Plaza in Downtown Sheridan Saturday and Sunday. Registration/welcome BBQ held the evening of Friday.
JUNE 5  MISS WYOMING SCHOLARSHIP PAGEANT  Miss Wyoming 2009 hosts 2010 contestants under the pageant theme "Wicked" (from Broadway Show) 7:30pm at WYO Theater.

JUNE 10-12: CELEBRATE THE ARTS
-Area artists present and produce their wares and talents LIVE in the shops and on the sidewalks of Sheridan's historic downtown district. Featured artisans present a broad spectrum of artistic medium franging from wood carving, clay sculpting, oil & watercolor painting, poetry readings, crafts, various genres of live music, and book signings.

JUNE 15 - JULY 1: BIG HORN MOUNTAIN WILD FLOWERS PEAK SEASON -Meander through the majestic Big Horn Mountains on Scenic Byways 14-14A experiencing wild flowers and wild life, such as moose, elk, deer, bear, lions & marmot
 
JUNE  18-20: 18th ANNUAL BIGHORN MOUNTAIN WILD AND SCENIC TRAIL RUNS - hundreds runners from across the US, Australia, Germany and more compete in 59 and 100 miles, 30k and 50k races in the Bighorn Mountains with many coming to watch the races - west of Sheridan, with crowds cheering.

JULY 24 - 31: SHERIDAN COUNTY FAIR - "Put $tock in the Fair"- Tractor Pull, Pig Wrestling, The Whitlocks live music performance, Clown, Carrie the Stilt Walker, Mechanical Bull, inflatable bouncing castle & slide.  4-H, FFA and community exhibits, livestock shows & sale. AUGUST 2:  WAGON BOX BATTLEFIELD ANNIVERSARY TOUR - Fight Site program and tour where a few soldiers and civilians fought against hundreds of Indian warriors - living history presentation of battle’s period uniforms and weapons.

AUGUST 7-8: 5th ANNUAL BIG WEST ARTS FESTIVAL - For two days Sheridan College campus becomes a metropolis of culinary, visual and performing art as the second annual Festival unites artists to showcase diverse and vibrant talent represented by artists worldwide. Event is free and open to the public.

AUGUST 21:  DIABETES DIRT DUATHLON  - Come in on the 4th annual Duathlon - solo or team race consisting of 3 mile trail run, 10 mile single track bike, 2 mile trail run, all on dirt, with a million dollar view at Jeffries Draw near Sheridan at 8:00 a.m.

AUGUST 28-29: SHERIDAN ELKS YOUTH RODEO - Toughest youth (17 and under) competition with the best awards ($55,600 cash/awards), in 26 events attracting 750 entries daily, from the region. And the most fun that you can have at a rodeo! Held at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds in Sheridan. No admission.

DECEMBER 21 FORT PHIL KEARNY STATE HISTORIC SITE TOUR Living history uniforms and weapons demonstration. followed by walking tour of the battlefield where Captain Fetterman and command of 80 were defeated by Warriors.  Meet at Fort Phil Kearny Historic Site Interpretive Center at 9:30 AM, dressed for winter weather.  Hot snacks to follow.
